Fire-Safe Chests & Files: -As the fire raises the room temperature, the molded polymer housings melt and ''weld'' together, completely sealing the interior. -Next, the double walls filled with Survivacast shield the contents from the heat of the fire. Survivacast is an insulation that encapsulates water. As the water converts to gas in the heat of the fire, an endothermic reaction occurs which absorbs the heat. -Protected by the complete seal and the Survivacast insulation, the interior of the Fire-Safe chest or file remains safely under 350 F - well below the 450 F charring point of paper, during the fire duration noted.
| A great safe, substantial storage, no problems opening despite what others wrote | 2010-09-05 | 5 / 5 |

PROS
1. Heavy safe! A thief is not likely to walk off with it.
2. Substantially sized interior accomodates lots of files/items, including legal-sized documents
3. Secure locking mechanism
4. Opens easily if you read the instructions and push down slightly before lifting up the handle, and push down again when closing
CONS
1. The weight of the safe makes it hard to move by yourself. Not a big deal if you plan to keep it in one place. |

| Item was a bit larger than I had imagined but it turned out that I needed the space. Was very pleased with the delivery time and after shopping around offered the best price for this product. |
| big secure storage | 2010-07-20 | 4 / 5 |

| I purchased this fireproof storage unit for my home business. It is roomy and large. I can keep all my backup dvds in it and software application info. I like that it has a key lock and not a combination. seems easier and more secure that way. It does come with a large note that instructs you to press down on the lid while turning the key to open, so no problems there. No problems so far I would recommend it, great price. |
| I wonder if safe has defect... | 2010-06-21 | 3 / 5 |

| The company was very good at holding my hand as I tried my best to open the safe. However, the latch stuck and there was no way to open it. On the advice of Sentry, I applied a large screwdriver to the latch area and finally opened it, damaging the safe in the process. In my opinion, and based on the other reviews, it is possible that there is a design defect with the latch mechanism. Sentry should redesign the safe to avoid latch failures. In my case, the unit was not in warranty and they were not willing to replace it. I suggest that a large percentage of these safes will fail over time and consumers should strongly consider whether or not to purchase this item. The good news is that a large screwdriver will easily open it, which means that one should not purchase it in the hopes of keeping thieves out. |

| i've had this safe for 3 years, and one day, the lid fell off. The hinge broke and this white powdery substance went all over the place. I would think a safe would last more than 3 years. |
